CONTINUED FROM VDEXThe Helioptile nodded, without even saying another word. The sun-basking lizard was very very eager to meet such friendly faces and would glad travel with Avon and Kit Kat. These people seemed nice and so the Electric type sniffs timidly one last time before darting forward, raising a scaly hand, and pressing carefully at the large white button on the front of the red and white capture sphere. The small amount of force caused the button to click and a burst of light enveloped the area. When it disappeared, the Pokeball was lying still in the palms of Avon's outstretched hands but it wasn't rolling or rocking in the slightest. Without a fight, the Heloptile happily submitted to this amicable capture and after a moment, the Pokeball chimed lightly to signify the successful capture. (Friendship Capture? Success! 39/80%)

Newt woke up suddenly, unaware of his surroundings. Everything was very quiet with very little out of the ordinary. Small houses with trimmed yards and tacky lawn ornaments. It all seemed right in line with the typical television suburb. But then the question of how he got there was what truly bothered him. It came back when he noticed Theo, his Abra companion, by his side. The Pokemon attempted a small smile that was hardly noticeable to anyone who hadn't known him for quite some time. The flight, the extreme turbulence, the fear of death. The memories were back and Newt realized why he was there, in Twinleaf Town.
"You do know we need to get going, right?" Theo said, clearly feeling impatient. Newt gave a nod and rose from the bench and continued on into the PokeMart he had been sleeping outside of. The shopkeeper noticed him from his camp-out and welcomed him, teasing about morning dew or something of the sort. Newt managed a small smile but did not make eye contact. His Pokemon did all the talking for him.
"We're going to need three Great Balls, an Ultra Ball, a Net Ball, three Potions, a Town Map, maybe that Old Rod if it comes in a collapsible version... err, actually, scratch the map. Newt's already got his Poketch thingy that gives him that sort of info." The Abra said, pointing to each of the objects. His trainer stepped forward, finally making an effort to communicate. He pointed to a rock sitting on the shelf.
"Eh, you want that? They've been labeling it the 'Intriguing Stone'. I got no idea what the hell it means, but it sure is pretty." The shopkeeper added, putting it into the pile of the rest of the stuff.
"You humans spend so needlessly," Theo added, rummaging through Newt's bag for the necessary cash. The boy was too fixated on the stone to care. He slipped it into his back pocket for safe keeping and snapped the Pokeballs into place on his backpack strap. Each of the Potions were poured into a much larger bottle that he carried with him to be used at his own discretion. The Old Rod, which did happen to come in a collapsible form, was folded down into approximately the length of his bag and strapped on to the bottom of it. The Abra waved a thanks as the two left for the route ahead of them.
"You do know it's sorta rude to not talk in front of people like that. You're going to have to get over it eventually. Theo stated, looking straight ahead.
"It's fine. That guy was nice, he understood." Newt responded, pulling the stone from his pocket and playing with it.
"No, he didn't. You seem to have forgotten my typing and abilities. I get a good sense of what people think when I can read their thoughts and und-" he cut himself off when he heard rustling. Leaves were not naturally blowing, they were being moved. The two found themselves in the middle of Route 201... and there definitely was something watching them.

Newt and Theo had stopped and if the human and his Pokemon partner had stopped, they had probably noticed him. Feeling caught, the Pokemon hiding in the bushes suddenly jumped forward. It was a blur of red for a moment before it came to a halt near Theo's feet and looked up at the trainer and his Pokemon. How peculiar that an Abra such as this was actually awake at this time of day. And how even more peculiar that it seemed to be lecturing its trainer. The Wurmple grinned and looked up eagerly at the Pokemon. "Hi," it spoke in the Pokemon language, then switched into English, "Who are you?"

How peculiar that an Abra such as this was actually awake at this time of day. And how even more peculiar that it seemed to be lecturing its trainer. The Wurmple grinned and looked up eagerly at the Pokemon. " Hi," it spoke in the Pokemon language, then switched into English, "Who are you?" Newt backed away from the talking worm, mouth open. He was about to say something but stopped himself and looked to Theo for guidance. The Abra sighed and smacked the back of the boy's leg and continued on. He got a glimpse of the Wurple's thoughts, which obviously involved him and his trainer being an odd pair. There was no denying that, but it still angered him slightly.
"I'm Theodore and this is Newton," he said, pointing to each of them, "but we go by Theo and Newt. Now, who might you be?"

The Wurmple wriggled around and nodded, "Pleased to meet you. I'm Wurmple. I have a name in my native tongue but it's...complicated and I'm not sure how to translate it (wouldn't want you trying to vocalize all the Wurmple clicks and syllables anyway, hahaha. But you can just call me Wurmple for now, that's easier." The red and cream colored caterpillar creature smiled at Theo and Newt in turn. The Worm Pokemon tried a kind smile and then tilted his head, curious, "So uhmmm...what brings you both to the area, Newton?" The Bug type was curious as to why Theo was doing all the talking for his trainer and though he did not intend to be rude, he did wonder what Newt's reaction would be if asked or provoked into answering a question.

Newt stared at the Wurmple, obviously not wanting to answer the question. He opened his mouth once, but closed it soon after. Not a sound was made until Theo stepped in front of Newt and spoke up. "We're trying to make it to the next town. We've been looking to challenge some gyms and improve a bit. Obviously, he's got some work to do." Newt kicked a bit of dirt at Theo, who in return elbowed him. The boy stepped back and let Theo do all the talking, given he didn't embarrass him again.

The wild Pokemon nodded and smiled a lot as Theo explained in Newt's stead. The Bug type was interested in the pair but something in Theo's tone seemed...less than inviting. And the way in which he explained their quest made it seem dismissive of the wild Wurmple, as if he were telling him to shoo and leave because their quest was for only Theo and Newt and Wurmple was not at all welcome. "Well then, I think I'll be...going then..." the red and cream caterpillar sighed, turning to leave. The creature wriggled a bit and began crawling away slowly, wondering if the pair would even bother to say goodbye. "Maybe we'll meet...again..."

"Come with us!" Newton blurted out, almost surprising himself. He stepped back again. There was something nice and comforting about the worm, and it was clear that Theo had scared it off. The Abra looked at his trainer with both anger and shock. Not only had Newt just spoken to someone aside from him or immediate family, but he was inviting someone on their adventure. But, in the long run, he would have to get used to it. What the human says goes.
Are you sure? Theo asked through thought. It was something that Newt hated, Theo being inside his head, but he would have to accept it.
Yeah.

Wurmple turned back in excitement, the boy had actually spoken to him? He leaped up and wriggled his body in a U-Turn, crawling right back toward Theo and Newt as quickly as he could manage. The Worm Pokemon cooed and made a few gurgling noises, followed by a few clicks, and nodded fiercely. "I would be honored to travel with you both, Newt and Theo!" the Wurmple responded in a loud tone. He stepped back and corrected himself, bowing his head a bit, "Uhm, I mean...I would be delighted...I think the equivalent is something like...happy to accept your offer, thank you." The Wurmple smiled enthusiastically and waited, wondering if the boy would present a Pokeball now or wait until later. (Pokemon Friendship Caught? Success! 88/90%)

Newt knelt down to Wurmple's level and pulled out a Net Ball. He clicked the button and the Pokemon was enveloped in a cloak of red light. The ball began wiggling, causing him to drop it the ground. After three small fits, it stopped and the then red button became white once again. The design fit a bug quite well, and Newt was proud of the choice. Theo shrugged off the whole incident, hoping to pretend as if there was never a new addition. The trainer quickly released his new catch.
He stared at the Pokemon for a few moments, trying to work up the guts to actually speak to it. "What did they call you?" he asked, looking down in the dirt quickly after.
"Well, it was a whole bunch of clicks that you wouldn't understand, but it most nearly translates to... uhm... you know, it doesn't really translate to anything in your language. It's more of just a random name with no real meaning." the Wurmple responded, chuckling at the end.
"Elliot," Newt said, patting the Pokemon's head, "you'll be Elliot."

As Newt and his team continued on their way toward Sandgem Town, they soon heard a rustling in the bushes. Two boys suddenly appeared, followed by a number of Pokemon. The first boy was tall and blonde with fluffy hair styled into a quiff and a tanned complexion, and he was wearing a black and red uniform, the outfit that distinguished him as a Sinnoh Pokemon Ranger. The boy next to him was much shorter but otherwise an identical match, though his hair was cropped much shorter in the back with longer bands in the front that hung down over his foreheads and into his eyes a bit and he wore goggles and gloves with his matching uniform. The boys smiled and waved to Newt, introducing themselves and their Pokemon in turn, "Hey there, I'm Zander Morganstern," the older one started, "and this is my little brother, Emeric," the younger boy waved and spoke up, "We're Pokemon Rangers in Sinnoh and we're on sabbatical to tour to the region with our Pokemon. You're the first trainer we've met since we left the home office a couple hours ago. And we're itching for our first real battle in a while. It'll be just for fun, obvious, we won't let anyone get seriously hurt this far from a Pokemon Center and we have enough items stocked to heal your Pokemon to full health after the battle so no worries." Gesturing to his Pokemon, the older one, Zander, announced, "My Pokemon are Mareep, Charmeleon, and Zangoose." Emeric, the littler kid, piped up in a high-pitched, squeaky, excitable voice, "My Pokemon are Chatot and Cascoon. Pick one of each of our Pokemon and we'll double battle against your Abra and Wurmple!" Zander and Emeric nodded in unison and waited for Newt to accept their battle request, it would (after all) be rude and almost unheard of to decline a battle invitation. It was only customary to allow a trainer to respond but as the old saying went, "When Pokemon trainers lock eyes, they have to battle."

"Of course!" Cole went off to restore his Pokémon, before returning to Neina's side. He released his Sandile at last, and it was obvious from her slightly-longer lashes that she was a female. Chingling made a loud rattling noise of approval, hopping off to accompany the small Miccino. "I WOULD SUPPOSE IT WOULD BE NICE TO WARM UP," the Chingling shouted at last- it was obvious that the small baby Pokémon did not know how to regulate his volume and spoke in crisp but extremely loud English, "MAYBE WE COULD EAT ELSEWHERE LATER AFTER THE BATTLE, NO HARD FEELINGS!" The Chingling rattled excitedly once more, happy to meet more Pokémon and waddling back to Cole's side. "Where do you want to spar at?" he offered at last, still smiling confidently. ------- Harry picked the Pokéball up, dusting it off. "Not it," he complained slightly- he needed an Egg Case and not a Pokéball, but a free item wouldn't be refused anyway. "Oh well." Schutzen levitated the ball into the correct pocket, before turning to the Egg at last. Kate blinked, carefully presenting the Egg to the more-experienced Sigilyph. I guess it's still a bit cold...we really do need an Egg Case, or else it isn't exactly an option for us to lug it around like this! he exclaimed at last, and Harry nodded in approval. He retrieved the Egg from the Buneary, continuing ahead without looking back. Kate hopped carefully, looking around in confusion. "I'm not sure if wandering there is a good idea...." she whispered to Schutzen in a mixture of broken English and Pokéspeak. The Buneary's sensitive ears had picked up something, and she wasn't too happy with what she had heard...

A large herd of Pokemon was nearby. Kate's ears had picked up their trampling but she was likely none too pleased at the volume of sound coming from many pounding hooves against the ground. Suddenly, the first few of the crowd began to appear, walking along timidly and carefully. These older Sawsbuck were soon followed by young Deerling. Due to the current climate, all the basic Pokemon forms were sporting pink coats and the older ones of the group had light, shaggy fur and flower buds growing on thin, sapling-like antlers. Harry and his friends had stumbled across an entire herd of Sawsbuck and Deerling. --- Neina admired the Sandile and scanned it for information with her Pokedex, then did the same thing with Cole's Chingling. The tiny bell-like creature began to shout, obviously not realizing at all how loud he was. Neina thought it was funny, though a bit odd. The girl thought for a moment, bit her lip, and then offered, "I live right near here, in Twinleaf, so I happen to know that the Pokemon Center here in Sandgem has been undergoing huge renovations for the last few months and now they've incorporated a number of previously unavailable facilities for resident and visiting Pokemon trainers. They have a Sparring Gym we can use." Neina led the way, heading back past the Pokemon Center healing counters and lodges and rooms toward the Training Center. They followed a maze of signs and found the Sparring Gym, currently empty and available. It looked just like a Pokemon Gym like the ones seen on television programs, with both sides separated by chalk lines and with places for trainers to stand. Neina positioned herself at one end of the field, opposite of Cole, and Cayden and Ryan strutted and slithered forward to the middle of the field, readying themselves for a battle. "Your move first, Cole!" Neina invited with a smile.

The trainer watched the ball as it didn't make the slightest movement. The pokemon inside wasn't fighting one bit. Then it clicked shut signifying the capture of the pokemon. Avon's eyes teared up a bit with the first capture made. What made it even sweeter to her, was the fact that the sun loving pokemon desired to be with her and willingly came along. It amazed her how far being kind got to the pokemon while being a trainer. She would certainly remember this capture for the rest of her life. Kit Kat nudged the girl's leg. "Avon! You did it! You caught us a new friend! Yay! What are you going to name that little cutie!?" Avon looked down at the peaceful capture device. "I dunno maybe he has a name already Kit." She gingerly touch the white circle in the middle. A ball of white plasma appeared as it solidified the Helioptile. "Thank you so much for joining our team! We're happy to have you on board! Do you have a name or can I give you one?" The sun loving lizard nodded. " Yep! I do! My friends called me Dandy!" Kit smiled at the lizard. "That's a really cute name there." The skitty purred and swished around her tail. "Thanks you !" Avon grinned down. "Come on now you two! We should stop by Professor Rowen's lab before we set off any further." She suggested and headed off in the direction of the lab. Her two pokemon trailed at her feet happily. "I think this is it guys." She observed out loud as she read the sign in front of the building that said Professor Rowen's lab. "Return for now. I'll see you guys later." The trainer returned her pokemon before pushing open the door to the lab.

Avon's Pokedex chimed a bit as Kit Kat and Dandy were returned to their respective Pokeballs. The girl opened the laboratory doors to find...a bright, fluorescent-lit metallic room filled with many people. The room was large and open but had a few potted plants sitting by the door, a couple desks around the edges, and a variety of identical doors that led off to Arceus knows where. People dressed in white lab coats darted about, carrying boxes full of rattling things and looked fatigued. A rope held back an uneasy pool of trainers dressed in a rainbow of colors, all waiting to see the great Professor Rowan. Though the lab was not nearly as full as it had been earlier (at least this time the waiting trainers could all fit inside the lab...for now), there was still an enormous crowd gathering and murmuring, wondering what gifts the Pokemon Professor might present them with next. As Avon entered, the mob opened up and swallowed her quickly. She bumped into a couple people and raised voices ensued but no one seemed particularly angry at each other, more so at the pushing and shoving that was occurring in general. A couple trainers were trying to organize a trade and as the crowd shoved Avon toward them, they mistakenly thought the girl was trying to insert herself in the trade. "You have something to trade?" a small redheaded boy asked excitedly. A girl with freckles and messy brown hair smiled and looked curious and a tall boy that had black hair with pink tips looked down at the group kindly and looked ready. The kids all began to introduce their wares at once, hoping to peak the interest of the newcomer and see what she might have to offer, "I have a Treecko plushie toy to trade!" the redhead boy piped up excitedly, holding the stuffed Pokemon doll high in the air. "Yeah but I have a Blue Tent! It's pretty and useful!" She tried to show Avon the folded up item but the tall boy shook his head, laughing, "My item is way better! I have a Tropic Mail!" He shook the envelope and it rattled loudly. "Who knows what could be inside here, right? It's a mystery and I bet a really good one!" he grinned and all three looked on expectantly, wondering if Avon would take up any of their offers.
