Professor Oak mumbled to himself, pushing against the bridge of his nose and scrunching his face up in concentration. He looked away and rubbed his eyes, pursing his lips. The older gentleman looked back down, trying to stay awake. He poured another mug of coffee and tiredly decided to get a few more hours of sleep. It would be a while until the trainers began to arrive. True daylight had not even broken through the swirling orange clouds of dawn yet. The man just hoped he had made the right choices, handpicking each and every trainer applicant that he would provide Pokemon and licenses to had been the easiest part; he just hoped that the Pokemon starter options he had chosen for all the kids would match their personalities. He was giving them choices of course, but if none of them properly matched their personalities as he hoped they would by extreme psychoanalysis and rooting through his system files and lab Pokemon logs...well, that was probably an event for later. If it even happened, he would be free to worry about it at that happened. For now, he stifled a loud yawn and laid his head on his desk in his arms, trying to close his eyes for a few moments and get some sleep... --- Finnian Breckenridge waved goodbye to his mother and father and ran back to hug his mum another time. His father looked stonyfaced for a moment but smiled and hugged his son again. Finn was worried he would fail to make them proud, his father would probably be the hardest to please, but he was still a bit hopeful. And most importantly, he was determined. The excited redhead rubbed his eyes quickly, facing away from his father pointedly as he did so, and then bade farewell to his parents. He grabbed his backpack, strapping it over his shoulders and running off. Finnian darted down the road, skipping the sidewalks and opting for the curb to try and get there faster somehow. With no sense of direction but just a sense of purpose, Finn wound up in front Oak's Laboratory. It wasn't exactly surprising, he knew the location very well already, had walked this path every day since receiving his acceptance letter to be sure he wouldn't get lost. But then again, everything was passing by in such a blur.
The morning had been a rush, a scramble to pack and unpack last minute things. His mother had packed for him several nights before and his backpack was so full of crumpled love notes and sandwiches and extra pairs of underpants that he barely had room for the essentials. Trying to keep everything truly necessary but lighten his load and pack a few more things (while leaving a bit of room for any goods he might obtain throughout his journey), Finn had hidden everything he decided not to take this morning in the bottom of his closet, where his mother would probably not go. Despite her snooping nature, she would have no reason to check the closet of her son's empty room for a few months, right? Finn didn't want to disappoint his mum at least, he was slightly worried she would be upset merely because she was trying so hard to let go of her baby boy (and failing so miserably) and only wanted to help him.
Of course Finn was appreciative for her help, he always was despite knowing his father would say it was only his weak will that let him put up with his mother's babying and fussing, that he should just man up already and tell her to shove off or something awful like that. Finnian shrugged and realized he'd been standing in front of the lab for an extra long amount of time. What was he even waiting for? He rubbed his neck out of habit, feeling a bit more sunscreen than he would have liked on his hand and rubbed it back into his arms before heading on toward the laboratory. Finn tentatively entered the shiny building...

"I hate you, like, burning," grumbled Yoonhee, her fist so tightly clenched with the lengthy printed out email from her editor that her knuckles had turned white.
Smoothening it out, she tacked it on the dartboard in her room before putting 3 near-bullseyes into the letter. After pulling out her arrows (custom-made, she wouldn't want to lose those, they were expensive), she slid them into her arrow case before folding her recurve bow and placing it into her bag. Today was the day she tried to be a Pokémon Trainer: or in her paradime, try to survive the ~great outdoors~ without being mauled into ten pieces by some wild Pyroar. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, the girl darted out of the house before she turned on her heel at the voice of her mother.
"Your notebook! Aren't you working too?" stated the older woman, handing her some writing tools and her grubby notebook. Yoonhee whined in annoyance but slotted it into her pocket nonetheless- she had to feed herself somehow, did she? Dragging her feet, she hopped onto her bicycle and cycled through the grass (out of the paws of Wild Pokémon, too)- finally arriving at the idyllic Pallet Town. Yoonhee dismounted before falling on her face into the fluffy grass for a few moments. Cycling all the way from Celadon meant she had pretty much lost sensation in her legs for a few moments. The actually-not-out-of-shape girl parked her bicycle on one of the racks, before shoving past a smaller boy with what appeared to a rucksack or something to enter the Pokémon Lab.
"Hey Prof., in case you like, missed the editor's memo, I'm here to like, take a feral little monster that'll like, claw my face off- umm, like, my first Pokémon. Yeah. Like. Totally didn't like, mean that. Umm, yeah. I should, like, totally shut up now." She clamped her mouth shut, trying to appear somewhat guilty because even if she knew they were little monsters, she needed her little monster to beat up other little monsters.

ND took a large breath, enjoying the cool air. Hu had walked all the way from Celadon City, not being in possession of a bicycle or other means of transportation. It had taken hours to make it to Pallet Town, but hu had been able to note almost fifteen different Pokémon along the way. Hopefully, hu would learn even more about the strange creatures. So far, hus favorite had been a perplexing little green creature with a small snout and round wings that flopped by its side; it had waddled around in circles for a while before disappearing into a pond. Hu had drawn it in hus journal for future reference.
Now that ND was here, hu sat down on a bench across the street from the laboratory of one Professor Oak, who appeared to be a specialist in the subject of Pokémon. ND felt hu could learn much from this professor and looked forward to meeting him, although he had never met anyone like a Pokémon professor before. The scientists in ND’s village all dealt with humans.
Oh, yes. Speaking of the scientists, ND still had to write a journal entry. Hu pulled a well-worn notebook out of a light bag hu carried over hus shoulder. The bag was a faded beige color, and the strap had obviously been replaced countless times, with yet another tear beginning to show itself near the middle. A pen was stuck in the spiraling of the notebook, which hu used to jot down hus thoughts.
It seems nice in Pallet Town. There is much sunlight, like in the village. Across the street from me there is a female who appears quite distressed pushing past a red-headed male who appears to be frozen or paralyzed. Unsure at this point which of the two it is. No, the male moved. I do not feel an affinity for either the male or female species from these observations.
After finishing hus thoughts, hu packed up his things and stood up, streching hus legs in an effort to loosen the tightening in the limbs that hu could already feel. Hu walked quickly across the street and stopped next to the red-headed male who still stood unmoving in front of the lab. I wonder what he is waiting for.
ND shrugged inwardly and pushed past the male into the laboratory, walking right into a conversation between the female from earlier and an old male who was presumably the professor.
“-should, like, totally shut up now,” the female was saying in a low, embarrassed tone. ND remembered that this saying meant to cease speaking. Hu stood there with hus bag slung over one shoulder, waiting to be noticed, not wanting to interrupt.

The professor woke with a start at Yoonhee's rambling, before turning to the duo that stood before him. Fishing out his spectacles, he noticed Finn outside before ushering the boy in. Smoothening his hair before clearing his throat, he introduced himself as Oak, before gesturing to the small bags before his table. "Each bag is labelled with your name, and holds 3 choices that I've handpicked for you according to your forms. There's also some essentials, including your very own Pokédex, six Pokéballs and a Town Map," he explained at last, "Of course, you may pick your Starter from inside your bags." In each bag, there were 3 Pokéballs clearly marked with its contents- once a choice was made, the other 2 Pokéballs would lock itself to the Trainer before being dispensed back into a complex machine that sorted the Balls for more Trainers.
In Finn's bag, the balls visibly were marked 'Turtwig', 'Gible', and 'Diglett'. ND's bag had balls marked 'Budew', 'Cyndaquil' and 'Dwebble'. If they squinted the contents could almost be seen.
Yoonhee only raised an eyebrow at her choices.

Riley awoke slowly, but not happily, to the buzzing of his cheap alarm. The ratty curtains let through enough light to reveal the multiple dust particles suspended in the filthy motel air. He began to open his eyes, but they eventually shot open when the realization that there actually was enough light pouring into the room to make the dust visible. His covers dropped straight to the ground as he rose and darted out of bed, slamming his fist on the alarm clock to turn it off. The panic faded as soon as he realized the time on the clock was actually an hour before he planned to visit the Professor to get his first Pokemon.
He then walked slowly toward the tiny bathroom and started up the shower. Riley brushed his teeth then stared into the mirror, wiping the steam from it every few seconds. It was really hard to believe that he was actually grown enough to start a new life this way. It all just seemed so scary, but exciting. He dismissed it as a common feeling for kids in his situation and hopped into the shower. His mind slowly drifted away from the possible events for the day and slowly toward what he could become. The thought of becoming a champion was so exciting, but also a far shot.
A faint flushing sound could be heard from the other side of the wall, followed by an extreme chill in the water. Enough to cause him to jump out and rush toward the heater next to the window at the front of the room. Once he was warm and sure that no one could see him naked through the curtains, he rushed back toward the bathroom to grab his clothes and got dressed. His hair wasn't quite dry enough so he held off on the hat, but left it sitting on top of his backpack that was sitting on the desk opposite the bed. He sat down, again letting his mind wander. Then, the clock came back into thought. Riley looked back to find that he was about twenty minutes from the desired time of arrival at the lab. Noticing this, he put his hat on with hopes that his hair was dry enough to not feel gross under it, and ran off to the lab with his belongings.
Riley walked casually through the front doors of the lab and noticed a small group forming. He definitely wasn't the only one there to get his starter Pokemon. The boy walked up behind the group and kept quiet, happy to wait if it meant getting what he wanted.

Finn toppled to the ground as an older, taller girl pushed past in a hurry to get by him. "Ah now, to be sure! Are ya after trying to kill me?" he exclaimed as he motioned to get up off the ground. He wasn't exactly hoping to confront the girl but that was besides the point. Another, a very androgynous-looking person, also strode past Finn and entered the lab. He stood up and brushed himself off, grimacing and Oak stepped out the door of his lab for a moment, beckoning to Finn to hurry inside.
Once inside, the small redheaded boy listened carefully to the Professor and nodded to show he understood. Then he grabbed his bag eagerly as the other trainers did the same around him and peered inside. Just as Oak had explained, he found a Pokedex and a Town Map and also nine Pokeballs. Apparently six of them were to help begin his training so he could catch wild Pokemon. The other three made up his starter choices. Pulling all nine minimized Pokeballs out of the small sack and holding them in his palms, it became instantly obvious which ones were the starter choices, as they were labelled with small white stickers with plain black typed lettering on the front to proclaim the species that was held inside. He put the empty capture spheres back in the back and peered down at his choices, pursing his lips as he stared at the small red and white Pokeballs which read: 'Turtwig', 'Gible', and 'Diglett'. He was slightly nervous because this was a permanent decision and an important one, picking his starter Pokemon was a once in a lifetime experience.
Finn swallowed and made his decision after a moment. It almost wasn't a question but he did hope he was making a good decision. Deciding to try and be bold and have some faith in himself, he placed the other two Pokeballs on the desk and pushed the small white button on the front of the Pokeball of his choosing. The familiar and audible click caused his tiny heart to stop for a second as a flash of brilliant white light erupted from the shiny red and white object and then solidified. As the light died down, his starter Pokemon choice was revealed, it was a Turtwig.
The Tiny Leaf Pokemon smiled happily and cocked his head. Standing on all four feet, the Grass type Pokemon resembled a tortoise and had a shell that appeared to be compromised entirely of dark, earthy dirt, which was quite compact and seemed strong enough, surprisingly. On the top of his head, a small sprout was growing tall and bright, its leaves a very healthy green color. Finn smiled and waved down at the Pokemon and then crouched to be closer in height. The redhead fumbled as he reached back into his bag to retrieve his Pokedex.
Opening the new device with a curious confusion, Finn figured out a bit of the control instinctively but knew he'd need to work on operating the machine more thoroughly later. For now, the scanning button would be enough for his purposes. The machine appeared to analyse Finn's starter for a moment and then a jubilant voice announced, "Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokemon. Made from soil, the shell on its back hardens when it drinks water and on a very healthy Turtwig, the shell should feel moist. This Grass type commonly lives along lakes. It undertakes photosynthesis with its body, making oxygen. The sprout on its head wilts if it is thirsty." The Pokedex also displayed a few bits of information on its small screen for Finn, such as the fact that his Pokemon was apparently a male and some of his height and weight facts and basic species information and basic care and habits. Finn mused to himself that the device was quite handy.
Looking back at his new Pokemon friend, Finn smiled and the Turtwig smiled back in turn. "I think I'm going to call you Rory, little guy. Is that alright?" he asked timidly. The Turtwig nodded and took a few steps forward, nudging his forehead softly against Finn's knee. "I'll take that as a yes so," the boy started. "It's very nice to meet you, Rory. My name is Finnian."

Oak noticed the boy, smiling as he beckoned the boy over. "You must be...Riley, am I right?" stated Oak kindly before gesturing the boy to the bags, "Just look for the one with your name on it. Once you pick, you can drop the other two balls into the machine behind you. There's also a Pokedex and some other essentials including a Town Map. Happy picking!" continued the Professor, before returning to catalogue some more Pokeballs for the new Trainers. Inside Riley's bag, three marked Balls stated 'Starly', 'Shelmet' and 'Honedge'. In the meantime, a rather tall girl fond of her fillers and writing was busy agonising over her choices. She released all 3 Pokemon- revealing the Mienfoo, Numel and Basculin.
"Floppy fish. How about, like, no," judged Yoonhee, recalling the Basculin and placing the ball on her table to omit it, "Um, like, a camel? What in like, the world do I do with like, a camel? He doesn't even like, know I exist," mused the girl and recalled the Numel. At last, she raised an eyebrow at the Mienfoo. "I hate rats," she stated in finality, trying to recall Mienfoo before it acrobatically dodged the recall beam. "Oh, like, you're pretty cool. That was a nice, like, somersault. Sure, I'll, like, totally take you. Rat, huh? I can, like, roll with this, like, no problem."

Riley responded politely to each of the Professor's questions and statements as they game, thanking him at the end. It was really great that this guy was willing to deal with all of these kids and them starting their adventures. Then again, people of his age always seemed to be much more patient to Riley. They had a lot more experience in life and really knew how to spin a situation in the positive direction. If the guy wasn't so busy, Riley likely would have sat down next to him just to hear about his past experiences with Pokemon. Sadly, there was no time for that. Instead, he rushed over to find his bag. As soon as he found it he ripped the Pokeballs from it. Six of them were unmarked, so he dropped them into his own backpack along with the Town Map. He stuck the Pokedex in his front pocket, eager to use it. Then the three marked balls. He held each of them and contemplated his choices.
"Starly, Shelmet, and Honedge?" he said to himself, scrunching his face in thought, "Starly's a bird. That's pretty nice. If I remember correctly it'll eventually become a Staraptor, which are really strong. Shelmet's sort of weird. Nothing against this Shelmet, I just don't think it's my kind of partner. And... uh, Honedge? A floating sword with eyes? That just sounds like a horror movie. I don't feel like dying any time soon. I think Starly's the clear choice here."
He clipped the Pokeball to one of three latches on his left backpack strap. His right had the same number, but would likely be empty for some time. Riley dropped the other two in the return machine and left the building, waving at and thanking the Professor as he left.
Once outside, Riley released the Starly from its Pokeball. After the red light faded, it was revealed that it was staring directly at him. It cocked its head to the side when he said hello, chirping a melodic response. The boy knelt down and extended his hand. Starly's head went to the side again and it let out another chirp. It slowly approached him and flapped its wings lightly. After realizing that he meant no harm, it climbed onto his hand and jumped the rest of the way to his shoulder. Riley, caught by surprise, jumped to his feet. It was a pleasant surprise, though. Many people find themselves with a starter Pokemon who hates them, and he had already made friends.
"You're pretty nice," he said aloud. The now official Pokemon trainer opened his Pokedex. A camera on the front was able to gather information on the Starly. It returned basic facts about the species, as well as facts such as gender, skill level, and moveset of this Pokemon, "You're a girl? Alright. Well, you need a name. And, uh... You know what? I like Pepper. You're Pepper."
It chirped a response, not quite caring what Riley named her. It was just happy to be shown affection by a trainer. Now that the introduction was out of the way, the two waited outside for the other trainers to emerge. There had to be some other interesting Pokemon the boy could learn about. He stuck his hands in his pockets and stood against the walls of the lab, watching those who left and what they had with them.

Finn was happy with his choice and Rory was currently following him around as they were trying to get to Professor Oak. Finnian thought it would only be nice to thank the Professor for his generosity and kindness in giving FInn his first Pokemon and sending him on his way with his trainer license. Hopefully the Professor would recognize him from the picture he attached to his resume and application?
Before Finn could walk across the room, however, an acrobatic little Mienfoo jumped in front of him and caught him off guard. He fell straight on his behind and grit his teeth, then began looking around and standing himself back up, Rory circling him with a worried expression. He stared at the jumpy little Pokemon and was surprised. He quickly scanned the creature with the Pokedex still in his hands and it announced aloud, "Mienfoo, the Martial Arts Pokemon. In fights, this Fighting type dominates with onslaughts of flowing, continuous attacks. With their sharp claws, they cut enemies. They have mastered elegant combos. As they concentrate, their battle moves become swifter and more precise. It takes pride in the speed at which it can use moves. What it loses in power, it makes up for in quantity." Finn nodded and smiled at the creature tentatively.
He pointed at the mustelid and said to Rory to comment, "Dis one here looks like a tough one, to be sure. I wouldn't want mess with him from the Pokedex's description at all at all. Seems real strong, he does indeed." Finn smiled at the creature and waved. Until he heard a girl making a lot of filler noises talking to the agile creature of its impressive skill. The red-haired youth raised and eyebrow and turned to see the same girl that knocked him down earlier, and now she had sent her Pokemon to knock him down? Mildly annoyed, Finn turned to face the girl and introduced himself, hoping to maybe smooth things out, "I'm Finnian, by the way, Finnian Breckenridge. You can call me Finn once ye like. And ye, ye sure do be the colleen that knocked me over before so. But I amn't trying give out at ye, just wanted to say hi. It seems we were both accepted be trainers after all, eh? Em, d'ye think maybe we can try be friends? And I was curious, to be sure, if ye might fancy a battle against me to test out our skills?

Mama, Papa -
Gone traveling. Happy early anniversary.
Savitri dropped the note on the kitchen table, weighing it down with the box of cornflakes (Good for you AND your Pokémon!). There - the last item on their list of things to do before they set off for the wild green yonder.
Pulling on their sneakers, they wondered if they should've left a longer note, maybe explained what exactly they were about to do for the next several months. No doubt Savi's parents would be curious, perhaps even concerned after a while. But Savi also couldn't imagine that they wouldn't feel overwhelmingly relieved that their "daughter" was finally out of their hair.
And what else do they need to know anyway, Savi thought, giving their shoelaces a particularly fierce tug. A reassurance that they'd be safe, that they'd take good care of themselves? Nearly everyone traveled by foot or by bike these days, and the roads were as secure as could be: ten-year-olds went on the Pokémon journey all the time, armed with nothing but a Poké Ball in their hand and a half-empty rucksack on their back.
Savi slung their messenger bag over their shoulder and locked the door behind them. This was the part in films where the protagonist would dramatically look back at the house they'd lived in for so long, but Savi had only been in Pallet for all of two months. Maybe if I were back in Lavaridge, though they doubted it: sentiment had never been in their vocabulary.
The walk across town to Professor Oak's laboratory was a short and familiar one. At least the professor would be happy to see Savi taking up this research challenge: he was always encouraging them to do some hands-on, modern-day learning about Pokémon, even if he didn't know them well at all beyond that. The reminder put the smallest smile on Savi's face as they entered the lab, where several teens were already milling about. Slipping their hands into the pockets, they joined the rear of the group as Professor Oak launched into an explanation about starters and the basic equipment provided.

To what Oak assumed was a girl, he opened his mouth to beckon 'her' before he double-checked the files on hand and realized that the 'she' was in fact a 'they'. "Savi, right? You've arrived just in time. Here's your bag, your Pokémon choices are inside along with the essentials such as your Pokédex and a Town Map," he stated with a smile, handing them the bag as it would be too much of a hassle to search while the bags began piling up. The bag's Pokéball choices were marked 'Torchic', 'Bronzor' and 'Zigzagoon'. He noticed Riley had already released his starter Starly to chat, and only chuckled- he had once been like this, decades and decades ago with his trusty Pidgeot partner. Riley reminded the older researcher of himself, and Oak merely shook his head at fond memories as he continued compiling.
Meanwhile, Yoonhee turned on her heel and stared the boy in the eye. The Mienfoo only watched calmly, turning his nose up at the Turtwig. "You're like, rude as heck, for a rat. Like, would it kill you to like, say hi to this, like cute little turtle?" Mienfoo turned away, folding his arms as he looked skywards. Looks like we'll have a blast, mused Yoonhee internally, trying to sift through the boy's (Finn, he said his name was?) accent before he requested a battle. "You want me to like, beat up your cute turtle thing with like, my rat?" Yoonhee repeated incredulously, and Mienfoo snapped his head back at hearing a challenge. Unfolding his arms, the Mienfoo instantly took a fisticuffs stance and Yoonhee felt as though she would face palm herself into a coma. "I'm sure we can like, totally be friends. Like, when my rat high kicks your cute turtle to like, the ceiling, I'm like fairly certain it ends relationships,"
Mienfoo jumped from one foot to the other, taunting the Turtwig to come at him and Yoonhee turned the Mienfoo over to stare into her face with a glare. "Look, buster, I'm stuck with like, you, and if you're like, going to cooperate, we've got to like, work out something. First things first, I don't think you like the name 'rat'. Whatever, I'll call you 'Shu'. Sounds classier and a heap more gimmicky. We cool?" Mienfoo raised an eyebrow, but nodded nonetheless, and Yoonhee shot back up to her feet with a flare of determination in her eyes. Shu felt the sheer power from his new trainer, flexing both his arms before turning to the boy and his Turtwig.
"'kay, second thing. Let's like, bring this fight outside. Won't want like, broken equipment," she stated at last, before turning to run outside, "Race you outside, bah hahaha." Shu strolled behind his owner haughtily, not even bothering to look at the Turtwig as he swaggered away. While he didn't get his trainer, at least she seemed enthusiastic and the Mienfoo enjoyed the infectious energy that radiated off her.

ND watched the people around hu as they played with the creatures that popped out of the red and white balls. The professor had informed hu about the Pokédex in hus hand, and had explained a bit about the contents that now sat in the faded grey bag on hus shoulder. But ND still hadn’t chosen a Pokémon. While everyone else was breaking open balls, ND studied the effects the Pokémon had on them. One male named Riley had chosen quickly, and a bird-type Pokémon had popped out. ND had put it into the Pokédex and learned it was called a “starly.” The red-headed male from earlier had finally walked in and also chose rather quickly, picking a Turtwig, as ND figured out. This Pokédex was extremely useful.
The female released all three to check them out, which ND found smart. Then again, ND seemed to have the least experience with Pokémon out of all these people, so hu could infer that the others knew something about the Pokémon already and could make an informed decision. That is what hu would do, but hu knew almost nothing.
Hu looked at the three choices given to hum once again, the words ‘Budew,’ ‘Cyndaquil,’ and ‘Dwebbie’ floating before hu. Deciding to follow the lead of the female, hu released all three before hu. But when hu saw the first Pokémon, the other two disappeared. It was a tiny little green creature with a bulb on its head and a friendly little smile. Taking out hus Pokédex, ND immediately scanned the creature and found its stats.
Name: Beduw; Type: Grass, poison; Species: Bud Pokémon; Abilities: Natural Cure, Poison Point. It appeared to be a male.
While the red-headed male and the female who said “like” too many times seemed to be having a disagreement, ND was discovering the first creature in hus life that seemed familiar to hu. The small plant-type Pokémon looked at hu steadily before making a burbling sound and making its way to hus feet. ND returned the two other Pokémon without regret. Then hu picked up the Beduw in hus arms and turned it back and forth in hus hands. It looked sturdy. ND corrected humself. He looked sturdy.
Not having ever named anything before, but knowing that one day hu would name humself, ND found humself searching for a name for the first time ever. All that came up was Isaac. ND wasn’t sure why that name came up, but didn’t think twice about it. “You shall be called Isaac,” hu told the plant. He looked at ND in acknowledgment, and then jumped from hus arms and into the open bag, using the bulb on his head to push the flap back up and poke his head out. ND smiled and took careful steps toward the door of the lab, nodding to the professor in thanks and following the strange female who was racing her Pokémon and patting hus Beduw on the head.

Traveling was not new to Palia in the least, but it still gave her butterflies of excitement when she arrived in a new continent or region to start her journey there. There was so much unknown and so much potential which was very exciting. Her latest journey on her road to becoming a champion of some sort had brought her to the Kanto Region to a quaint little town named Pallet where a pokemon professor resided. Her parents had sent her with all the requisite travel and training needs - pokeballs, a few potions, the latest communications technology and plenty of money to support her travels. It was all safely tucked in the messenger bag that dangled off one shoulder.
It was not hard for her to locate the professor’s lab due to the thralls of eager young faces like herself that were gathered around. Some seemed younger - probably closer to 11 which was when she first started training. It seemed like quite a commotion for a quieter town she’d seen. Plenty of teenagers and kids milling about, some already with their starters. This was not her first rodeo, but she still stood and listened to the professor prattle on about what every new trainer needed to know. It was always good to have a refresher, she supposed, as she looked boredly down at her nails that had recently been painted a dark crimson. Shit She thought as she saw all sorts of starters being handed out to those who’d arrived before her. I hope there are still some good options left. She thought once more before there was a moment to slip past a boy and girl who were already talking about battling with their new starters. “Hello Professor. It’s an honor to meet you. I can’t wait to receive my starter and learn all about this region.”

"Thank you," Savi said to Professor Oak as they took the bag from him. It was a bit smaller than their own bag, though just as sturdy, and Savi stepped aside to empty the contents out on a nearby table. Out fell nine Poké Balls (Savi quickly slipped the six empty ones into their messenger bag), followed by a neatly folded Town Map and the gleaming red Pokédex.
Like spoils from a boss battle. Savi pressed the release button on each of the three starter Poké Balls, watching as the beams of light they emitted grew and took form. To their surprise, Savi recognized two of the Pokémon that emerged: Torchic, the tiny bright orange bird who was now hopping around amusedly, and Zigzagoon, a furry brown mammal who blinked its eyes sleepily up at them. I thought we'd be using Kanto Pokémon for exploring Kanto. What are Hoenn species doing here? They glanced over at Professor Oak, frowning slightly even as they told themselves that they had no reason not to trust his judgment and expertise.
The third and final Pokémon finally drifted towards Savitri, and for this one, Savi had to whip out the Pokédex. It was a round blue disc, about two feet in diameter, with yellow eyes and what appeared to be a round blue nose: perhaps it was a Steel-type, judging by the metal exterior, but Savi could glean nothing else from it.
"Bronzor, the Bronze Pokémon," the Pokédex spoke after flickering to life and running a quick scan. "Ancient people believed that the pattern on Bronzor's back contained a mysterious power. Implements shaped like it were discovered in ancient tombs. It is unknown if they are related." Savi read over the rest of the data provided: Steel/Psychic dual-type, 1'08" in height, a whopping 133.4 pounds in weight, and - their heart skipped - genderless, like every other member of its species. That, combined with its species' history -
It sounds perfect. And I'd rather work with a species I don't know as well anyway. But...
Savi returned the Torchic and the Zigzagoon to their Poké Balls with two clicks, then approached the Bronzor. "I'm up for it if you are," they said for only Bronzor to hear. "And if you decide you aren't after a while, you can leave anytime."
Bronzor did not appear to respond for a long, agonizing minute. It hovered, its wide yellow eyes staring unblinkingly into Savi's dark brown ones, and then - it bobbed up and down in what might've been a nod, and moved closer.
Savitri felt a smile spread across their face, the corners of their lips tugging upward unrestrained. "Thank you. I'm Savitri - Savi for short."

Devon looked at the clock, the breakfast his mom had prepared for him today had taken longer than he expected, it was already time for him to go. The boy gulped the last pice of bacon before he moved to his mother and hugged her "I'll miss you" she said to him. Devon smiled "don't worry, I'll try to call often" he responded trying to make her feel less worried. Devon turned to his father, he decided he would be late for work today so he could say goodbye to his only son. Not as emotional as his mother, but feeling the same way, the man gave Devon a hug as well before saying goodbye. Devon smiled, he knew his parents would miss him, and even when at first neither was happy with his choice, to this point they had already accepted it and had even bought him some presents, a brand new backpack, it was white with black accents, and big enough for him to get everything he needed inside and still have room for pokemon supplies, supplies that he'd surely need in this journey. Devon took the backpack and adjusted the poketch on his left arm, the second of his departing gifts. He turned around to see his parents at the door waving at him, he waved back and rushed to Prof. Oak's lab.
It didn't took Devon much time to get there, this was a path he took almost everyday, wether it was just to see the pokemon on the back of the lab or just passing by through Route 1, this was the path he'd take. As soon as he got there, Devon could see some of the newly accepted trainers -as himself- had already chosen their starters and there was a couple who was actually moving on to a battle, this drove Devon excited and made him go through the doorway past the floating blue dish and its trainer without worrying to bother them, which he probably did by going through in the middle of both. Devon introduced himself to Prof. Oak who seemed quite happy to welcome the new trainers, despite him still be working on some other stuff, probably trainer related as he had quite a lot of folders with young people's pictures on them, it was either that or he was preparing to kidnap half the children of Pallet Town.
Anyway, the pokemon professor explained Devon about the bags on the table and its contents it didn't took long for him to find the bag with his name and after inspecting it, he found the three pokeballs with his starter choices: Magby, Chikorita and Espurr. Devon looked at them all carefully, Magby was a Fire Type pokemon, and a very rare one, plus, he knew it would eventually evolve into Magmar wich was one of his favorite pokemon. Chikorita on the other hand, he idn't knew much about it, only that it was a gradd Type pokemon and one of the most common starter choices for kids in Johto. The last one was labeled Espurr, this one was a plain blank for him, he didn't knew anything about it, all he could infer drom the name was that it was some sort of cat, and he hated cats, so without hesitation Devon put that ball on the table discarding it right away. He ten looked at the remaining two, a tough decision this was, if Chikorita was given as starter in Johto that meant it must, or at least it should be a strong pokemon, but on the other hand, Magby was a Fire Type, and would evolve into one of his favorite pokemon. Devon thought for a moment before putting Magby's pokeball in the table. He took both Chikorita and Espurr's pokeballs and put them on the machine the Professor had pointed at and taking the bag with the supplies and pokeballs, he left the building.
Once outside, Devon released his starter, Magby to introduce himself. After pressing the button, the red pokemon appeared before him, with a confused look on its face at first, Magby turned to the boy infront of him "hey Magby, I'm Devon, Im your trainer now" the boy explained smiling, Magby smiled, it was not sure if either this was a good or a bad thing, but the boy was smiling so it must be good right? The pokemon moved towards Devon but as soon as the boy tried to touch Magby's head he got burnt. Confused, Devon took out the pokedex and scanned Magby with it: Magby, the Live Coal pokemon. Magby is small, but its magma-like blood circulates throughout its body, making its body temperature over 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit. Embers escape its mouth and nose when it breathes. Magby's state of health is determined by observing the fire it breathes. If the Pokémon is spouting yellow flames from its mouth, it is in good health. When it is fatigued, black smoke will be mixed in with the flames. The pokedex explained more in detail about his pokemon, how it was a Male pokemon, the moves he knew so far (plus the rest of his movepool), certain cares to have for him and many other useful stuff. Devon was shocked, that said quite a lot, and yeah it explained why he was burnt, but he didn't felt Magby being that hot, but hey, he didn't knew much about temperature anyway to say the contrary.
Devon looked at Magby who seemed a bit worried about burning him, but as soon as Devon showed him his hand was alrught it calmed down quite fast. Devon smiled and turning around he spoke to Magby again "well, it seems there are people excited to start battling, lets take a look he said" before he say right next to Magby. The pokemon smiled and looked around to see some other pokemon with young humans by their sides, does this meant it was normal to have a human as a trainer? The lizard~ish pokemon looked at his self-proclaimed trainer, he seemed happy, maybe it was safe to trust him and thus, mimmicking Devon, Magby sat down right on the side of where the two other trainers were starting their battle, a turtle and a rat? A weasel? What was that anyway? Those were pokemon neither Devon or Magby were familiar with, but at least, they'd know more about them as soon as this battle began.
