Yes hello it is I. So yeah, about the houses...how do we want to do them? I feel like it would be cool to include Japanese mythology, so have houses based on important gods with certain character traits, or magic specialties.

I think basing it off character traits might be better, since specialization would probably only be relevant for older students. (At least, I hope they wouldn't expect an eleven-year-old to come in knowing exactly what they wanted to study. lol I would cry.) If we're looking at deities, I guess the most important ones would be Amaterasu, Izanagi, and Izanami. Maybe Susanoo since he's Amaterasu's sibling? Tentative ideas for traits: - Amaterasu House: leadership, boldness, curiosity - Izanagi House: moral righteousness, tradition - Izanami House: defiance, independence, vengeance - Susanoo House: bravery, impulsiveness, volatility, mischief We could probably replace Susanoo with Inari since I feel he overlaps a lot with the other three houses.

These sound great! I'm having so many ideas just based off of this. But what would Inari be like?

Please tell me all your ideas!! I want to link any worldbuilding/headcanons/etc. in the first post so we can keep track of things. House Inari: generosity, simplicity, protectiveness

Okay I like Inari then. So basically most of my ideas are for characters and relationships between houses. Not so much character names and appearances. Just personalities. I'll try and get up a post of my ideas sometime in the next two days. I need some time just to get it all sorted out, and today is completely devoted to homework in between small breaks. Plus I'm about to fall asleep, so I have to deal with being tired on top of everything.

All right, gotcha. I may be busy with work this week, but I'll try to drop in so we can keep this rolling.

Wow, so totally haven't done anything here for a while. And totally forgot to write down my ideas. But don't worry! I haven't forgotten them. I'm just going to say something on here that's an idea for one of my characters. Mitsunaki, Rika is her name. She comes from Kyoto and is muggle-born. Of course, in Japan they might not care so much about muggle-borns, but I feel like there would be some other kind of prejudice. Her personality is really shy at first because she has no idea what's going on, and in the beginning she's a terrible student. She can barely cast a single spell because she's too nervous about messing up. But as the story progresses she becomes much more confident, and her parents continual hatred of all things wizard-related makes her that much more fired up about her powers. She hates her parents basically because they're already planning her marriage, which is strange nowadays, although not unheard of. But she hates it. I kind of want her to turn evil by the end because of the conflicting emotions of wanting to be a better witch, but growing up with parents who hate everything she's capable of. And also all the teachers that look down on her in the beginning. Kind of a sad story. But so much to work with.

lol dw, I haven't been the most attentive to this either. /tired floop/
Yay for having a potential "villain"!
Not exactly a prejudice per se, but I do know that because of Japan's "fit in and don't rock the boat" mentality, people who stand out tend to be bullied or looked down upon. Thus House Izanagi's reputation.
(Also...you might hate me for this...but one of my pet peeves is that comma in between the last name and the first name: it's not necessary, and I believe it only exists in American/English writing customs because our first names go first and our last names go last (so the comma distinguishes the reverse order). In a culture where the last name comes first and the first name comes last, I don't believe it is necessary (and the comma wouldn't be there when you write the name in Japanese anyway). You can do whatever makes you feel comfortable, though, since it's a really nitpicky thing. I'll shut up now.)

Oh wow I didn't even notice that. Don't worry about that. I've read enough manga that I know they don't use the comma. I guess I did it inadvertently. From now on I'll try and remember because honestly that would bother me too.

Awesome! Thanks for being so cool about it.
I guess I will start working on ideas this weekend - I think I may just take archetypes from my existing plethora of characters and see how well they fit in this context....
