"What the freak?!" Eddy shouted. He stood hunched over, scratching furiously at his scalp. While his eyes were tightly shut in frustration, his eyes occasionally darted to his pokemon collapsed in the center of the ring. A scruffy looking cat facing down in the feild was the focus of his attention, beaten by the pokemon looking over him.
"Hah! So it's settled. You're buying me lunch again today, Dork." Kevin grinned. The boy was tall and semi muscular, exuding confidence, if not mixed with a bit of arrogance. His most notable feature was his orange hair that could be seen even under his baseball cap. He pulled out his pokeball. "Good Job, Charmeleon!" he called, bringing his pokemon back to its ball with an even wider grin this time. A few of the nearby students who were watching cheered, congratulating the orange haired teen. Kevin gleefully accepted the adoration, seemingly used to it at this point. He often won his matches, almost never losing to the the other members of the school. Each compliment seemed genuine yet empty. They had been repeated so much that while well deserved, lost their meaning. Kevin walked over to Eddy with a smug grin. "Yo dude, I'm getting the sushi today, so I hope you got the cash."
"Hey! you just wait you turd! I'm gonna beat you next time and get freaking Ed to help me eat. I'll bankrupt ya!" Eddy Shouted back. His forehead was sweaty and he was fighting back tears. Anyone who knew him would know that if he would cry, it would not be from loss of the battle, but from the loss of his pocket money. Frugality and selfishness were his defining traits after all.
"Hey bro, here's a super potion for your meowth." A tall blonde girl walked forward. She was cleanly dressed and spoke casually to Eddy as if nothing happened. "On me, okay?" The girl walked away, not really looking back. Eddy sprung right back up, full of energy.
"Didja see that guys? Nazz was totally hitting on me!" His grin now matched that of Kevin's, who had left some time ago. "She probably saw me battling all extra hard and thought I looked hot!" He licked his hand and used the saliva to slick back his hair. "That's called havin' the moves, boys."
"I don't think she was flirting, Eddy." Eddward chimed in.
"No, she just felt sorry for you haha!" Ed shouted.
"You guys don't know squat!" Eddy shouted back as he began spraying the healing liquid of the super potion on his meowth. "Don't worry, Dusty. We'll Beat him down next time!" Eddy pulled his pokemon to its ball to rest, going back with his friends to rest. "Alright. Since I gotta cough up the dough for shovel chin, You guys gotta share your lunches, got it?"
Edd frowned a bit. "You know, it is difficult to get a balanced diet when you lose so often." He rustled through his side bag. "I anticipated your loss and packed an extra lunch." He handed a squar box to his shorter friend who snatched it out of his hand without even a thank you.
"So you're sayin' that you knew I would lose? Some friend." Eddy and his friends began walking to the lunchroom. "Besides, my win ratio is higher than yours, stupid." Eddy rushed to a table, only to be met by an eager Kevin.
"Hey Dorko, twenty bucks. C'mon. " He pulled his hand out to accept the money, only to be met with disappointment at what was offered. "A ten? I can only get like a handroll with this. What's up? you pay for my lunch, whatever I pick."
"It's all I got. Deal." Eddy murmured back, not even looking up.
"Yeah, no, I ain't gonna deal. You owe me another ten bucks and you know it!" Kevin slammed his hand on the table, calling the attention of a few passerbys. Eddy was unresponsive. "Hmph." Kevin huffed. He grabbed the arm of Eddward and pulled him away in frustration, barely giving the boy a chance to grab his bag.
"Umm...Kevin? could you please loosen your grip?" Edd asked meekly.
"You're my collateral, so shut it until we get to the table." Kevin rushed over, snapping his finger. Nazz, the girl from before, walked forward with two trays of sushi. "Snap at me again, and i'll beat you in battle in front of everyone, dude." Nazz replied jokingly. She placed a tray of nigiri and handrolls of various colors in front of him, with a matching one for her. "What's Edd doing here?" She asked calmly.
"The shorty over there is shorting me on our bet, so I got double dweeb to make it even for today." He placed a few of his peices of sushi on a small plate and handed it to Edd, who appeared more timid than usual. Edd looked down at the plate. Sea Urchin, Salmon Roe, Natto, and Red Clam Nigiri. "You can have those. They're gross."
"You ass!" Nazz raised her voice this time. "I paid for this stuff so you could try something new. Dont just give it away!" She took the morsels back and shoved them onto Kevin;s plate. She turned to Edd. "Sorry Dude. Share with me, okay?"
Edd looked in confusion. He knew that these two bickered when he heard from across the lunchroom, but never committed to listening to their actual conversations before. "Umm..." He began, pulling out his lunch box. "I actually packed my own, but thank you." He looked back at Eddy and Ed, who seemed to have forgotten about him. Ed was shoving forks in his nose and Eddy was scarfing down the lunch that he had offered earlier. He turned and took the top off of the lunch. There was a quality assortment of well shaped fruits, carefully cooked meats, and colorful vegetables. This display astounded the other two at the table, causing their mouths to water and put their sushi to shame.
"Dude!" Kevin grinned again. "Wow dude. Make me a lunch some time." Kevin wiped away his drool and seemed to soften up. "You always hang in the back of the class all quiet all the time. I just thought you were a nerd but-" His words were stopped by a hard smack to the back of the head from Nazz.
"Don't be such an ass to our guest dude!" She shouted.
"Co-la-ter-al!" He shouted back. "I can say whatever I want!" Eddward watched the two bicker. It was like they were married or something. Edd giggled a bit behind his hand, not wanting to disturb their interaction.
