Well hello there everyone. For those of you recent newcomers, welcome to RememberShedinja: a site dedicated to Pokemon Roleplay. My name is... well, honestly I have quite of few of those but for now why don't we go with Paleo to make it easier and welcome to this thread.
Pokemon Regions. The phrase brings about many things to many of us. For some it means something new and exciting. For others, it means something to remember, that good, old nostalgic feeling. Regardless of which one applies, we have all at some point wanted to know what the entirety of the Pokemon World looked like. Now obviously the Pokemon Co. won't reveal an entire world map until such a time as they stop creating new regions but that doesn't stop the community from drawing their own maps.
Now, the real purpose of this thread is to discuss and debate the locations of the Pokemon Regions in relation to one another which may include game, anime and other incarnations of them. I feel that this is actually integral to the future development of our RPs. If we can create a sufficient map for the site to reference, Roleplays could achieve a better physiology on the site stemming to even cameos in other people's roleplays. But that is all complicated stuff for the far future. For now, we debate. Now I'd like to start this debate off with things I found and information I've gathered.
Read that in my next post.

Alright, so effectively here, we have to have a central location to base all of our directions on. So far, all of the information I have found uses Kanto and the main point of reference and so will we.
So we know that obviously Johto and Kanto are connected with Johto to the direct West of Kanto. They are part of a singular land mass which at this point we don't know if is connected to any other known regions. Now, based on my findings, Hoenn is South-West of Johto and Kanto. So we have a linear direction there as reference. Unfortunately we are unsure as to how far apart these landmasses are. Perhaps there is some hint in the games or whatnot. I'd assume that the ocean would need ships and we know the boundaries of the oceans based on the inaccessible boundaries in the games.
Moving on, we also know from this map here that the Orange Islands are directly South of Johto/Kanto. Actually, this map also gives a great reference point to judge the size relations of these landmasses and grants us a lot more of the land features of the Johto/Kanto unexplored areas to the West and East. We also know that the Sevii Islands are directly South of Kanto. Though this we can say that it is South of the East side of the Johto/Kanto Landmass. I'm assuming that these islands are much smaller since in the games, a speedboat is really all people need to get there while Ferries were used between the orange islands as well as tugboats sometimes. So I believe that the Sevii Islands may be closer to the Seafoam Islands than anything else if we assume direct South is the central point of Kanto and most likely they are before the Orange Islands.
Phew, that was in depth, but we aren't done yet. Sinnoh is next being directly North of Kanto. Again, just Kanto, not Johto/Kanto which places Sinnoh above the East side of the Johto/Kanto landmass. Since that portion of the Sinnoh map seems connected to a larger landmass, we can assume that it is part of the same continent belonging to the Johto/Kanto sector. Of course it could be revealed that those locations are separated but for now we will view them as potentially connected.
From there we have the Battle Zone. Yes, we gamers typically see it as part of Sinnoh, research shows that they view themselves as separate from the Sinnoh mainland making them a region by default basically. It's located North-East of Sinnoh but maps like these show how close it is in relation to its parent region.
Unova is described as very very far away but it doesn't reveal in which direction in any research that I find. But most people assume Unova is far to the East of the current locations of the the aforementioned reasons due to the fact that it is representative of a US city while the others Japan. I think it's a logical assumption based on the data. We do know that the Decolore Islands are located in between Unova and Johto/Kanto however.
I have not found any research showing a location for Kalos in respect to the other regions. I know in the game they mention Unova a lot so I assume that it may be closer to Unova than to the other regions but right now it is still unknown.
Those were just the main regions, the real fun begins with these lesser known regions. Orre is a neat one modeled after the Arizona desert. One would think it would be connected to Unova. Well that is cute but it is wrong! Orre is actually connected to the Johto/Kanto landmass. This is the only region we definitively know is connected to whatever landmass Johto/Kanto is connected to. The only information we miss is how close or far or if it borders Johto/Kanto directly. We know that is is North-West. We know this location barely has any wild Pokemon. The environment is just far too hostile for most Pokemon life as we currently know. So this region is much more technologically based and Pokemon are seen as guardians with the whole shadow thing. MOVING ON!!!
Next would be Fiore, Almia and Oblivia. All I know about Fiore is that it is close to Sinnoh. This means it's North of Johto/Kanto at the very least. Fortunately though, Almia and Oblivia have known locations near Fiore with Almia being directly East and Oblivia being directly South. The normal rules of Pokemon trainers and the Pokemon League do not apply here. Instead, there are Pokemon Rangers. Essentially they befriend wild Pokemon to help in certain situations.
I looked at things like Ransei from the Pokemon Conquest series however I don't think even if that region was located in the main universe that it would exist in the same timeline. It seems more along the lines of the past. However Mewtwo exists for some odd reason so perhaps it is a region much further away than we ever thought. Thoughts on this would help. I would assume based on its theme and belief structure that it is located near enough to Sinnoh to share the Arceus creation myth.
Then there are the Mystery Dungeon locations but we know that those are in a different universe entirely. Pokémon Snap is set on Pokémon Island, an isolated reserve home to many species of Pokémon. It appears to have a relationship with the Kanto region of the core series, as Professor Oak appears to have some authority over the island, however we do not have an direct location to it. Pokémon Channel is set in Mintale Town, which is inhabited by many species of Pokémon, also suffers the same fate though we believe it is near Kanto as well. Holon is a very very obscure region that not many people have heard of. Taking the TCG universes into play, Holon has unique kinds of Pokemon. According to press release statements prior to Delta Species-era expansions and information on booster packs, the Holon region was inhabited by humans who wished to search for the elusive Mirage Pokémon Mew. Establishing a city (also called Holon), scientists utilized the unique magnetic properties of the area to produce waves of electromagnetic energy via a large tower in the city center to track the location of Mew. The resulting electromagnetic waves caused the local Pokémon to mutate into abnormal types inconsistent with their genes elsewhere, with their highest evolved forms typically having Metal as a type. The affected Pokémon came to be known as Delta Species. However, we don't know what the relation to the rest of the world is but I'm willing to bet it is near Kanto with this whole Mew religion thing.
We also know that South America (or at the very least Guyana) is a thing for some reason. No idea how we'd just forget about an entire continent like that but it is mentioned in the 1st generation games and the anime. We'll just put is directly South of Unova for simplicity's sake.
The newest one is Ferrum from the Pokken series. Again, we are unsure if this exists in the Pokemon main universe at all or its location in any way in relation to it.
Wow that was a lot to read. I hope you made it.
