I just figured I'd create a discussion for stuff like this because it seems to be pretty common. We can talk about our things that shouldn't be working and how we fixed them to help others!
So, I have a gaming headset that I've been using since like 2010-2011. It's an AMAZING headset. The mic is super high quality and the headset itself produces sound that I personally feel is as good as the pair of BOSE headphones we use in my house. Sadly, I abuse them.
They constantly fall off my desk. I did go for the wired to avoid batteries which meant I kicked the wired a few times. Not until like the last 2-3 years did the thing begin to break. I think it was one day when I took the house phone and shoved it under the earpiece so I wouldn't have to hold it. The part that held it completely in place broke so it would wiggle back and forth to the point that the entire headset was loose on my head.
So I shoved it back in the socket and wrapped it in tons of duct tape. It worked for about a year, but recently it started popping out again. I rewrapped it a couple months ago, but it wasn't enough. Last night I shoved the phone under it again and it click so far out of place that it wouldn't even sit in my head anymore. I took off the two layers of different duct tape to find that it was literally dangling by a wire. The entire side of the headset was dangling. So I clicked it in and wrapped the entire side with some metal craft wire I had left over from my Halloween costume and wrapped it again and my headset will live to see another day. ^_^
