Well, while I'm no diehard fan of the series like some of you, I enjoy it, and thought we should have somewhere to discuss it without taking up the space in the OOC thread for the HP RP, so...here we are~
Well, for starters, have you guys tried out Pottermore? I did, and got sorted into Ravenclaw.

This is a good board idea! General harry potter talk is always good. I ended up trying Pottermore myself (still go on every once in a while) and made sure I was on during one of those first registration windows. My username is HollyOak64 if y'all are interested in adding me ;* Somehow I got sorted in to Gryffindor so...

Well, I rarely ever go there, but maybe I'll start doing it. :3 I just remembered its existence and wanted to try and...contribute to this forum, I guess? xD So, yeah, I'm DragonRune9767. (The fact that it won't let us make our own usernames annoys me. I wanted to be xXx_Harry_P0tt5r_xXx, dammit!)
So, on with the topic, are the movies really good adaptations? I own a few of the books, but never quite read them. Everyone I know that has both read and watched the series mentions the books are better, but I've never seen anyone say they cut out anything important or stuff like that, and it seems like the essence is maintained, but just how much better are the books? (My only real experiences with both reading and watching something are with Scott Pilgrim [the movie is good, but they cut out too much IMO], and The Hobbit [don't even get me started with this one :T])

Like mini, I also fought off thousands of weaker HP fans to declare myself an official Pottermore early registrant. This was back in my slow-ass Internet connection days, so obviously I was very dedicated. lol
I haven't logged in since the end of PS/SS, though. My username is GlowUnicorn152 (? unsure about the number), and I was also Sorted into Ravenclaw. And I think my wand was sycamore with unicorn hair, ten inches, surprisingly swishy. I have it screencapped somewhere; I was so proud....
edit The movies don't leave out important events, but I feel a lot of the essence of the books, plus subtler things such as character introspection and worldbuilding details, are either oversimplfied or lost completely. I think the movies establish a fairly different tone in many aspects, and thus the books are better if you want the original, "undiluted" HP world, so to speak.

I'm IcePhoenix5332, Slytherin. I used to play it a ton, but to be honest the chapters come out so slowly that I just don't find myself going back very often. By the way, have you guys ever heard of the movie Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story? It made me cry literally because I love Harry Potter so much. If you a hardcore fan, check it out.
