Manta's Journey:
Character:
Manta Iwashimizu
Age: 16
Appearance:
Manta is around 5ft 9in, with caramel skin an blue eyes. He has short brown hair with a small pink streak.
History: Manta is a trainer who lives in a daycare cafe on the outskirts of Goldenrod City with his adoptive/biological mother, Giselle. He is the son of two semi-prominent trainers. His father, (Manta) Finn, a successful pokemon breeder, and his other father, a notable chef. Manta is the latest in the long line of "Mantas"on his first fathers side. His family have always had sons, and all were named Manta, though many went by their middle names. Manta's father was more soft-spoken and cautious around people, but was typically open around pokemon. His knowledge of pokemon breeding was exceptional, and was credited for breeding pokemon for even the most esteemed of celebrities, though his shyness kept that fact out of the public eye. Unlike many breeders, he always found homes for his pokemon, whether that be with another trainer, or in a proper place in the wild. His other father, Ty, the chef, was always a very outgoing man who always seemed to make friends easily. He was noted in making excellent pokemon food as well as being a sought after chef. He used to journey around various regions, finding exotic ingredients to cook new dishes with, and learning the food cultures of different places. His adoptive mother is in fact his biological mother. She volunteered to carry Manta for the two men, as neither could do so themselves. She is a longtime friend of Finn, who helped him in his early days establishing a daycare center. She is almost as knowledgeable, only really lacking in the pokemon raising secrets Finn refused to teach her. Giselle focused more on pokemon contests in her youth, often placing highly, though not winning, in international contests.
8 years ago, when his family vacationed in the Laverre City in the Kalos region, he got lost in the forest. For two days he wandered, without food or any sense of direction. No one could find him. As he lay against an old tree, hungry, dazed and defeated, he met with a mysterious pokemon. Tall and elegant, the pokemon emitted a light from its horns, sharing the light with him. The plants around him grew rapidly, quickly producing fruits. His body glowed light pink and all of his hunger disappeared. A strip of his hair changed color from brown to pink. Soon after, the pokemon began walking away. As it was just out of sight, it looked back once more to the boy by the tree, then disappeared into the distance. Almost immediately after the pokemon left, various forest dwelling pokemon, mostly fairy types, revealed themselves. They came to pick the berries and inspect the boy. Manta, with his fatigue now gone, got up and allowed himself to be lead out of the forest by the fairy type pokemon and to meet his parents once again.
5 years before the start of the story, while travelling in Johto in search for a home for a togepi that had hatched there, Manta's father, Finn, was pushed off of a cliff by a rampaging pokemon. The togepi was unscathed and returned to the daycare to live. The three other pokemon that Finn held with him, A gardevoir and two others, were also nowhere to be found. Due to the depressing disappearance and apparent death of his husband. Ty left the daycare and his son one night without saying a word.Giselle, who had been sticking around to comfort the family, was left in charge of the daycare in Finn's memory, and promised to take care of Manta until Ty's return.
Manta, now 16, had wanted to start his own journey as a pokemon trainer at a young age. however the loss of his father and the abandonment of the other had left a sense of obligation to stay and take care of the daycare. There, he accumulated extensive knowledge from Giselle on top of what was passed on from his late father and become an talented pokemon breeder. This sense of obligation left him to see his few friends leave on their journeys as he stayed at home. After much pushing from Giselle, Manta finally left the daycare in her care so that he could explore and discover what he wanted in life.
Manta's father, Finn, was actually a decendent of one of Johto's 12 noble families. His, the one specializing in fairy types, was the first to willingly give up power to progress in the changing times and to end the era of nobles and royalty. This makes Manta one of the last remaining of his clan. His father never passed on this information, so most, including Manta, are unaware.
Every so often, Manta feels a familiar feeling as the night hat he found his ralts. That perhaps his father's pokemon were watching him from afar.

Nickname: Grace
Manta's first pokemon. Grace met Manta near Cherrygrove City at Blue Moon Falls while he and his Father Ty were camping as a 15th birthday gift. Dazed from being woken in the middle of the night, Manta vaguely recalled a figure that resembled his father's lost Gardevoir guiding a small pokemon through the forest to his camp site before the gardevoir disappeared. Manta asked his father if he could keep it and Ty agreed. Soon after, Grace allowed herself to be caught in a special pokeball Manta had received on his birthday.
Grace is calm and collected, keeping her own feelings in check. She has a soft spot for visually appealing things and will try to make herself appealing to watch in battle. She is able to sense Manta's feelings and uses those to determine what strategy he wants to apply. It takes her quite a bit of time to open up to new people.
Trivia:
*Grace can understand the immediate emotions of other people and pokemon, and uses this to bond with others, causing her to be liked by most.
*Grace trains her psychic abilities daily, working hard to be able to lift and push more with her powers.
* Because she can understand commands before they are given, she holds the best potential to successfully pull off Manta's strategies.
Nickname: Kaya
Carbink and its family resided ideep in Dark Cave until poachers, after the species' coveted gem bodies, attacked their home and split up the family. Some Carbink perished, some ran off to join other families within the cave. Saddened at the loss of its family and unwilling to just search for a group of strangers to join, Kaya decided to stay with Manta, who had worked to thwart the poachers and provide a chance for its family to escape.
Kaya prides itself on its defenses and enjoys having its body polished. It feeds itself by absorbing minerals from the soil. It has a specific fear of Sableye, who have a habit of eating its kind, and gabite, who have a habit of kidnapping its kind.
Trivia:
* Kaya prefers female pronouns due to most of the team also being female.
*She holds an untold potential within her.

Nickname: Naga
Naga is the original partner of Ryuunosuke. Naga was bred and raised by nobles to be an exceptional pokemon, due to the dragon DNA for this species. However due to the family's type-based social hierarchies, she was regarded as "ugly" and "trash". This heavily influenced her confidence and preventing her from believing in herself. After spending time with Manta and receiving different treatment, she began to truly shine. Thinking about the best for her, her original trainer willingly gave her away to Manta to be raised with love.
Naga is rather timid and was formally able to seamlessly blend into the background, however she is slowly coming out of her shell. Because Naga was bred from a special lineage and formerly grew up under the care of a wealthy family, she distinguishes herself from other feebas. Her scales are especially lustrous (though only noticeable when comparing to other feebas) and she possesses a number of moves learned from birth or taught soon after. She is easily influenced by insults, but is getting better.
Trivia:
* Naga slowly gains confidence in herself thanks to Manta's support, but will revert back to her old way of thinking if she is insulted by a member of her original trainer's family.
* Like its counterpart, Gyrarados, its evolved form can float in the air when on dry land, though not nearly as high.
* She later develops the ability to calm large groups of people and pokemon with energy waves, and uses this to avoid needless conflict.

NIckname: Stitch
Mimikyu is the former "Burned Tower Terror". Being a foreign pokemon and not recognized by most townspeople, Mimikyu was mistaken for the ghost of a deceased Pikachu. People feared him and would run from him on sight, leaving MImikyu to reside in the almost abandoned Burned Tower. Mimikyu however simply wanted friends, and didnt fully understand why people would run from him. Because of this, Mimikyu did everything he could to maintain his cloth disguise and pass as a pikachu, leaving at night to gather materials and practicing electric type moves, inadvertently scaring locals. Upon hearing of the ghost story, Manta entered the tower and met, who was initially trying to hide. Instead of expressing fear, Manta thought of mimikyu as cute and fascinating. Finally having someone who treating him as a friend, Mimikyu agreed to travel with Manta.
In mimikyu's attempt to pass as a pikachu, he has learned a number of electric type attacks. Mimikyu is both fast and calculating, able to use its disguise as bait before launching a counterattack. It focuses on physical attacks, but can also confuse opponents with its double team attack. It shows no mercy to those who damage its disguise and will prioritize fixing its disguise after the battle.
Trivia:
* Out of all of Manta’s pokemon, Stitch loves battling the most.
* Being so obsessed with its disguise, it is very meticulous about its upkeep, and will even go out of its way to clean the area it will be spending extended periods of time with to better protect its disguise.
* Where Stitch finds the materials for its disguise is also a mystery. But whatever material it is seems to be sturdier than the average fabric used in human clothing, since it can withstand strong attacks and even fire without withering away.

Nickname: Luma
Luma was found on the edge of Cianwood City during the Hot Springs boom. Luma, having travelled along the magma line, she ended up in the small city right as it was commercializing its new hot springs. The notably strong larvesta kept citizens at bay while opening up more magma veins to replicate its home environment, putting the surrounding homes at risk. The townspeople were ready to use dangerous means to subjugate the destructive Larvesta, however they were stopped by Manta. After a brief battle, Luma decided to travel with Manta, who showed her that she didnt have to rely only on herself to have a home and live safely.
Luma is a particularly powerful pokemon, having travelled from afar by herself, relying on her own strength. Normally independant, she tends not to wait for commands before acting, but is learning to be patient. He was the ability to fly short distances by propelling herself with the flames at the tip of each horn, though she is rather slow on the ground. She tends not to do well in double battles, and needs time before opening up to others.
Trivia:
* Luma is considerably older and more experienced than the rest of Manta's team and will refuse a command if she doesnt agree with it.
* She only respects trainers and pokemon who prove their strength, with rare exceptions.
* She is very hard to read, and seems to like it that way, which explains why she tends to avoid Grace and her ability to share emotion.
♀ Nickname: Aria
Aria is a shy and skittish pokemon who follows Manta throughout his journey. Afraid of most other pokemon and especially trainers, she uses her superb hearing abilities and minimize move to stay close behind Manta without being noticed, even by him. When Manta left her alone after she showed opposition to being caught, Aria respected the young trainer, who gave more consideration for her feelings and desires than other trainers she had escaped. She tries to return the favor by helping him periodically. She strongly dislikes staying in a pokeball, so when she wants to travel with Manta, she uses minimize to hide within his baggy clothing, mostly using her hearing to to understand the situation around her. In her minimized state, Aria will help Manta by firing attacks such as fairy wind though the baggy clothing, giving the illusion that Manta himself is projecting the attacks. Which is just as well, since she would rather hide her existence from most.
Trivia:
*Aria is just as heavy minimized as she is normally. So Manta knows of her location on his body at all times. The attacks also come out the same as if she were regular sized.
*Out of all of Manta's team, Aria only gets along with Grace the Ralts. This is because Grace can share her feelings effortlessly and understand her boundaries.
*Aria is not officially Manta's pokemon for a majority of his journey, as she doesnt want to be confined to a pokeball.
