Get ready for your awesome first adventure, starting in Sandgem Town, Sinnoh, at the laboratory of the famous Professor Rowan. Please, take some time to read up on the RP and familiarize yourself
with its rules and then feel free to complete a form and sign up!
Rules
1. Use the OOC for its intended purpose, commentary can all be reserved for this thread in addition to other miscellaneous content, that is what it is for. 2. No Legendaries will be allowed on this thread unless mods have you encounter them. You can't even see "a glimmer of rainbow feathers in the sunlight" or you can be removed from the thread. This RP will feature Legendary Pokémon but they are to remain untainted. 3. Be nice to each other. At this point, there is no need to even list the many ways in which one might disrespect the existence or identity of another, you all are aware and you will abide or you will be removed. 4. Stay Active! It’s a very important part of an RP. If you are going to be unable to post for a while, PM a mod, so we know why you aren’t posting and won’t kick you out. 5. No godmodding. Rule breakers should be cautioned, it appears that godmodders have a statistically relevant increase in likelihood of being hit by Mod Lightning, an incredible, unnatural phenomenon brought on by karma according to legends that instantaneously results in death, banishment, and more 6. If you happen to run into another participating RPer, stick to events that you both witness meaning it is not possible that Johnny saw a Ratatta while hanging out with Kevin who for some reason saw a Slowpoke. 7. Pokémon do not evolve until mods have given you permission to evolve it. This RP will use a leveling system which will be further explained below but even if or when you Pokémon reaches the required level, it is still something that must be run by a mod for verification. 8. A Pokémon's movepool only grows. This means at level 100 it will have access to all the moves it can ever learn so long as you trained it to do so. If you wish to train a Pokémon a new move, training is recommended to take at minimum, 5 posts to ensure that a Pokémon has properly mastered a technique. However, battling regulations state that a Pokémon can only use four moves at a time. Trainers equip movepools prior to the start of battle and these limit the moves a Pokémon can utilize to enhance strategic gameplay. More regarding battling and our new online battling mechanism will be explained below. 9. Be descriptive and thorough, try to get quality posts that also account for some quantity, to further interactions, gameplay, and character development. If anyone feels they need help in this area or if a moderator has a concern over the current state of an RPer’s posting quality, mdf2711 will be offering services and resources. 10. Posts are to be made in third person limited (you cannot know others thoughts, but you can have an idea of their mood based on facial features and other things). 11. You are expected to maintain and update your application as a profile page. If you have questions on this, ask in the OOC or PM a moderator.
Application Form
Name: Age: Appearance: Personality: Gender: Sexuality: Pokémon: Any qualifier to roll from, your starter selection roll will include at least one Pokémon matching this description (use type, color, region, number of evolutions, egg group, anything you can think of). You can have one reroll but there is no preference allotted in rerolls and no take-backsies. History: Other: Anything else you may wish to add to your form. Questions, concerns, extra tidbits about your character. This section can be deleted after applying if you do not find the information is important. Feel free to personalize the app, after you are accepted it will become your character's player sheet and will need to be updated with party and items information, so be encouraged to make it unique and add quotes, MBTI, theme songs, graphics, a log of their travels, gym badges, etc.

Battle Mechanics Battle mechanics have changed a little now to accommodate for this newer age of roleplay. See, the problem with battling in some of our old roleplays was that they took too long. Encounters and minor encounters always seemed to pass fairly quick but as for battles in between players or major NPC battles like gym leaders, they either took an eternity or were avoided to keep activity possible. Due to the use of fluid time within the RP, we progress fairly well even in the absence of others in real time. However, due to the fact that each players exists in a singular time bubble, when they become engaged in a battle, they become time locked and thus have to work through to the end of the battle.
This can take an incredibly long time and in the past, sometimes took an upwards of several weeks to several months just to complete a battle. Now, using the system of online battling provided by Pokémon Showdown, battles can take place in a fast paced manner between roleplayers that allow for more battling to add to realistic experience, quicker movement, and fair tracking and logging of battles for future viewing. Using Pokémon Showdown, players can easily set up a team to look just like their in-game team and use some or all of these Pokémon to battle against another trainer in real time, choosing their movepool of four moves as explained above and making sure everything is in accordance with the specifics of the roleplay, and then battles will be decided through battling skill. Okay, it's true, in the past one positive thing about this old method was that it allowed lower leveled Pokémon to win by better RP skills or strategy. But there are pros and cons to every system. So first, the battles were just simply taking too long. We lost plot movement and character mobility when our RP slowed down and battles lasted months and months, especially gym battles, which we rarely got through. We also had an element where, yes, better RP'ed Pokémon could win even if they were physically weaker but this could have been tampered with by powerplay or refusing to lose with personal battles between roleplayers and also we didn't have the exact level system that we'll introduce in an organic manner this time around either (more explained on this system below), so weaker was much more relative. So do we lose that possibility? Yes. But I think what I've summarized above, especially in time constraints and fairness of gameplay, we're gaining a lot more by this system than we'll be losing out on. Besides that, it does make the sport more competitive and realistic. Yes, there's strategy and writing skill that goes into how a battle progresses but the fact is, a level 5 Charmander should never win against a level 30 Starmie, skill and strategy be damned, the writing quality might make the battle drag out longer but a single well-aimed attack on the part of the type-advantaged, higher leveled opponent should be enough to knock out the Charmander, maybe two at the most. So yeah, the odds might not always be in your favor but training and battle experience will go by quicker in this manner, making it easier to level up so that you can work to have the level advantage in the future. And besides that, Pokémon just a few levels above another don't automatically have a game changing advantage, neither in the RP or the games.
Manta and Jaime kindly had a mock battle set up as an example, which can be found here. The battles can actually be watched and the log can be read through at the side, and should be in this case because it contains instructions by JJX explaining the process of the battle and how to continue from there. As explained, the roleplay aspect of our experience is and has always been an important aspect of this, so this feature is just a way to augment it to make a fair, catalogued, and quicker enabled method of battling. After the battle is completed, each player will need to create a post documenting the battle in some level of detail.
For each minute the battle lasts in normal mode (not how long it takes to finish the battle, the normal mode doesn't take stalling between turns into account), the player will be asked to write one paragraph. It is important to note that this is good time to write about feelings and emotions as well as commanding the Pokémon in the battle process, if you lose, it might be helpful to discuss your trainer's emotions going into the battle, if and how that changes as they begin to lose, how they feel they performed and whether they blame themselves, if it motivates them for the future or discourages them. If they win, talk about the same kinds of things over their victory, whether they feel it was earned or not and more. The actual in-game battling process itself can be inorganic at time, just remember that your roleplay experience is what makes the battle feel fleshed out and can be used to further character development in many ways, so be creative.
If anyone has questions, comments, or concerns about the new battling mechanics which will be used for gym battles, NPCs, and trainer battles between RPers, please contact a mod or post in the OOC.
Level Mechanics The system for leveling is a new addition to the RP experience as well. In the past, levels were initially given as a rough gauge of a Pokémon’s power and potential, and to explain their available movepool as a base of where to start developing from upon capture. Now, a full level system will be put into place. It is based on the system used in mdf2711’s old RP, ‘Alterity: Sinnoh’ but has been adapted in a much better way. All the credit to the ideas used here, however, are owed to Mewitti aka Witticaster, a fantastic artist, storyteller, and content creator and their comic, “Alterity” (which mdf’s RP was, with blessing, based on).
So here goes: ‘Levels’ are just an abstract way of measuring Pokémon’s potential strength. The level system was actually developed by the Pokémon League to gauge evolution readiness and isn’t all that great for predicting a Pokémon’s true power, but people latched onto its beautiful simplicity and it’s become a gold standard in the training world. (Think of it like IQ: IQ is nearly useless for determining true intelligence, but people cling to it anyway because it’s easy to interpret.) Level-measuring tech is built into Pokéballs and syncs up whenever a Pokémon is captured or recalled.
Pokémon can ‘level up’ in all sorts of ways. Practicing attacks, exercising, and even simply growing older can raise a Pokémon’s level. However, real fighting against real opponents is considered the fastest way to level up. Because of this, almost everyone uses battling to train Pokémon, even though most Pokémon are then put into non-battling jobs once their powers are sufficiently developed.
As for moves…Pokémon ownership and battle in this world is regulated by the government because they were tired of dealing with the dead/injured bystanders and massive property damage caused by people throwing their superpowered pets at each other. Pokémon can only fight legally if they limit themselves to very specific learnsets (developed by the Pokémon League) that are based on their species and level. These restrictions are designed to keep the game more safe and equal for everyone.
Example: Poochyena, according to their learnset, should only attack with Tackle, Howl, and Sand Attack moves until level 13, because those moves are safer than a Bite that could easily snap an opponent’s neck on accident. After level 13, Poochy gets to step up the game with Bite, and opponents are expected to be able to counter it.
These restrictions have the added benefit of turning battling from a brawl into a veritable strategy game. In any case, ‘illegal moves’ happen when trainers/Pokémon disobey these move restrictions for whatever reason. In normal battles, trainers aren’t legally responsible for the injuries their Pokémon inflict. But that protection goes out the window if someone can prove the trainer broke League rules. As mentioned above, a Pokémon's movepool only grows. This means at level 100 it will have access to all the moves it can ever learn so long as you trained it to do so. However, battling regulations state that a Pokémon can only use four moves at a time. Trainers equip movepools prior to the start of battle and these limit the moves a Pokémon can utilize to enhance strategic gameplay. As for leveling, there is a complex formula gauging experience yields and gains through in-game actions, with a heavy emphasis on battling being the quickest way to gain experience but others are possible as well. To discourage powerplaying or grinding/cheating to gain the greatest amount of points possible without regard to actual gameplay or strategy, the formula itself will remain a Mod secret but feel free to check frequently with mods about the status of your Pokémon's levels, they will be calculated constantly to maintain accuracy.
Friendship Captures Friendship Captures are partially based on the nature of the Pokémon. Only Pokémon with neutral aligned natures are possible candidates for Friendship Captures, with the exception of potential special in-game events. This means a Pokémon with Bashful, Docile, Serious, Hardy or Quirky nature allows this chance for a Friendship Capture, within reason. Out of 25 natures, this makes the possibility of encountering a befriendable Pokémon to be roughly 1/5.
At the start of the encounter, a player can perform a friendly action such as giving the befriendable Pokémon a berry. If the berry is received positively by the wild Pokémon, this is a good sign. If it is not enjoyed by the Pokémon, this will reflect on the trainer's chances to befriend the Pokémon. Some berries will be neutral to the Pokémon and these will be determined as positive or negative results by a coin flip. Five friendly actions or berries later, if the trainer has maintained a 3/5 or above for positive reactions from the befriendable Pokémon, then the Friendship Capture will be declared successful.

Name: Erin Delle Age: 17 Gender: Male Bio: After years of being on the streets and going through tragic losses, Erin was forced into trainer school by the local authorities. An orphan as long as he could remember, his only friends were the streets and sky scrapers that surrounded him. Rash and unpredictable, Erin often finds himself in difficult situations and almost always finds a way out of them. Smooth talking and light fingered, Erin is skilled with picking locks and made a life for himself by thieving. He became the unlikely friend of a stray Magnemite for some reason. The thing just seemed to like him ever since they met. Now they are both on their way to Littleroot Town and from there, Sandgem in order to get his equipment from the region's local professor. Pokémon:
Magnemite "Buzzer" Lv. 5 Moves: Tackle
Some would argue that Buzzer isn't really sentient. That he is simply a mechanical organism that lives to feed off of electrical energy of synthetic origin. Buzzer came from a line of bred Magnemite utilized for their unusual sturdy nature and best of all for their natural conductivity before a massive power outage set the local Magnemite loose. After bonding with Erin over his electronic devices, the two became inseparable. Although others didn't see it, Erin was sure that Buzzer could feel and think. Buzzer is so named by the noise he makes when he is frustrated.

Name: Syrus (Sai) Meyer Age: 15
Appearance: Syrus is 5'5" and relatively skinny. He has short brown hair that barely covers his ears the back has a small pink streak in it. He has a birthmark mole on his left eye. Syrus often wears slightly baggy clothing including a light blue shirt that he frequently wears. He carries around a backpack with a surprising amount of space for its size and a belt to hold pokeballs that pulls more to the back instead of the side. He has a small pink diamond hanging from his belt loop that he puts around his neck during battle. He doesn't know if it is real or not, but he is infatuated by it. When he wants to be alone, he wears a black skull hoodie that he inherited from...someone, and closes it around his face.
Personality: Syrus is a calm and collected new trainer who spent a lot of his young life around pokemon. He likes to see the good in people and pokemon and always gives poeple a chance. His calm and collected attitude is helpful when he is in mock battles at the training school, but he tends to hold back due. He is trusting and kind, though often forgetful, which occasionally gives the wrong impression. He likes to cheer others up and will go out of his way to do it. Syrus has a thing for beauty and uses that as well as pastries to lift the spirits of others. Unfortunately, he second guesses himself and has a bit of a self esteem problem, especially when something has already gone wrong. This can lead to a fake smile that he hates to put on. It can however be reflected in what he cooks. He has trouble opening up to people compared to pokemon. He is a big sucker for cute stuff.
History: Syrus is the son of a a pokepuff/poffin pastry chef in Laverne city. He spent a lot of his life producing pokemon treats among other treats and used this knowledge to learn about the personalities of pokemon. With his analysis, he can understand just what kinds of flavors nearby pokemon crave. Because his father needed him to help run the business, Syrus had to start his journey late. There was also some discouragement from his mother that led him to think that he was not good enough to become a trainer. With encouragement from his father, Syrus left home for his journey. His training at the local trainer school showed his skillful battling, but also his tendency to overthink situations and have delayed reactions. He also tends to focus too much on making moves look pretty instead of winning. Syrus likes to make others happy and uses Battling along with offering desserts as his way of spreading joy. He has shown interest in making friends but has been having trouble.
Sexuality: Gay (as hell)

Name: Yoori 'Leo' Lee (She knows it's a male name, it's deliberate) Age: 15 Appearance: A small, slender girl with pale skin and dyed reddish brown hair. A small silver pendant engraved with the rune of a large bird is visible around her neck and she wears a pale grey hoodie over a red shirt with the zipper all the way down and baggy, loose track pants. Needle scars are quite visible in her left inner arm from administering insulin, and she usually carries a backpack containing a bunch of knick-knacks. A telescope peeks out of the bag itself. Personality: Yoori is rash, blunt to a fault as well as incredibly sarcastic. She tends to be entitled due to being born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but most of the time, she’s just flat-out naïve than trying to actively hurt anyone. In reality, Yoori’s a fairly laid-back person who loves taking things at her own pace and making spurn-of-the-moment decisions. Most of the time, she’s reserved in terms of forming relationships with others due to being trapped in a vicious cycle of being used and then left alone. It’s usually quite difficult to get her to lower her defenses, and she tends to be somewhat wary. Yoori is obsessed with astrology, and would go to great lengths to pursue her passion by chasing stars. She tends to be quite cryptic about her existence and often mentions in passing that death might be her only option. Gender: Genderfluid, uses she/her pronouns Sexuality: Lesbian Pokémon:
PC: History: Yoori's parents (mother and stepfather) own the entire line of hotels in Kalos, but she moved to Sinnoh in order to stay with her paternal grandfather at the ripe old age of 10 at the family's villa in order to escape their controlling nature as well as the immense stress of being groomed to become eventual heir of the franchise. She has a younger stepbrother Dongwook, who's a year younger and still staying in Kalos. A Type 1 diabetic, Yoori refused to be seen as weak and trained up her body's tolerance in order to take on more physical challenges- she has a black belt in judo as a result of this intensive program. While she's very obsessed with the stars, her grandfather understood that one day she'd have to go out into the world on her own, and so allowed her to pursue her interests alongside Pokémon. Other: Her obsession with astrology is a result of her presumed-dead father, a military pilot who taught her to recognise constellations. She also gets her insulin from Pokémon Centers, to clarify.
